Plot summary

Alex Danyliuk grew up with no friends, spending his time online playing games, and his family, immigrants from Ukraine, struggles for money on welfare in Canada. He earns as a Clicker, driving online traffic to websites, then moves to Toronto for college. Needing more money, he takes up identity theft with Sye, a street-wise hustler who brings him into black market trading, beginning with cards that were lost or stolen and invented transactions. The International Bank of Canada, which had fired his mother, catches him committing fraud, and he works out a deal with Curtis, its head of security: he repairs the bank's insecure site and computers free of charge so that he and Sye can walk. Word of the scheme reaches the Dark Web, where members praise it, and Zed, its masked head, takes an interest.
