Plot summary
Asha Chaudhry is a teenager in a suburban town. She has a little brother named Kamran, and their parents are Leah and Amir. A monster called Grimcutty has appeared, and it was brought into being by the hysteria of parents. Asha and Kamran set out to stop it. Asha makes videos online, and her best friend is Emily Litman. The plot comes from a 2019 online scare called the Momo Challenge, when parents panicked over something their children often had not heard of.

- Writer-director John Ross got the idea for Grimcutty while watching a news story about the Momo Challenge hoax, struck by how hysterical the interviewed parents were while the children had no idea who "Momo" was. He had wanted to make an Invasion of the Body Snatchers-style horror film centered on technology.
