Plot summary
At Freedom Community Chapel in a small Alabama town, eighteen-year-old Grace Trey sings every Sunday beside her father Johnny, the church's praise music director. Johnny once charted a Billboard number one single, then left that life behind and raised his family in faith. Grace writes her own songs and wants to perform them; her parents want her to go to college. When she adds her own touch to a Sunday song, the disagreement at home sharpens. Grace leaves for Los Angeles, where Frank "Mossy" Mostin, Johnny's former manager and producer, takes her on and sees a pop star in her. Michelle urges Johnny to let their daughter find her own way, and Grace cuts off contact with her parents as her career gets underway.
