Plot summary
Michèle is 20 years old and has just broken up with her boyfriend. Each scene opens with a title from her journal. Her modeling career is going well, but she still feels incomplete. At a café with friends she meets François, a veterinarian, and he fills part of that absence. Michèle says she is Catholic, though prayer and worship leave her dissatisfied, and on a recommendation she takes up Buddhist meditation and elaborate costume jewelry. She learns that François is Jewish, though he does not practice. Michèle then immerses herself in Jewish tradition, keeping the Sabbath among other observances.
