Plot summary
Paolo Moretti is an Italian who lives in Paris, where he drives a tour bus for a living. Greta Kluge is a German stewardess, the woman he loves, and Paolo has at last summoned up the courage to ask her to marry him. The day after the proposal, a young French beauty named Cécile Laurent comes up beside his bus on her bicycle. Paolo's friend Derek gives him some very bad advice about the situation, and Paolo follows it. The proposal and the woman on the bicycle leave Paolo with his life turned upside down.
