Plot summary
Steven Carter is an introverted sixteen-year-old at a school in Basingstoke. He is gay, and says nothing about it. He is bullied at school, his parents do not understand him, and his only confidante is Linda, his best friend and the girl next door. Now and then he goes looking for men at a public toilet in a local park. One visit brings a shock: John Dixon is there, the school's star athlete, bound for an Oxbridge career. John says he is not gay, but he is curious enough to follow Steven home while the house is empty. Upstairs the two almost kiss. John pulls back, repeats that he is not gay, and storms out. Back at school the following day, John ignores Steven.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The film came from Patrick Wilde's 1992 stage play What's Wrong with Angry?, a gay love story between two British schoolboys, which he wrote because he was sick of being told, even by gay people, that it was easier to be gay now.
- Several songs heard in the film were omitted from the soundtrack album because their record labels raised copyright issues, among them Aretha Franklin's "Respect" and "Think" and the Backstreet Boys' "If You Want It to Be Good Girl (Get Yourself a Bad Boy)".
