Plot summary
In early 2019, Richie's pregnant wife Tiff is near her due date when Uncle Jimmy asks Richie and Mikey to take a box to Gary, Indiana, without saying what is inside. The drive should take 35 minutes. Tiff, who is superstitious, is sure she will give birth at 5:15 and insists Richie be back by then. He and Mikey fill the ride with playful insults and Richie's mixtape of travel songs. In Gary the recipient is not ready, so the two friends spend a couple of hours at a hot dog restaurant and on a basketball court with locals, talking about names for the baby.

- The hot-dog meal Richie and Mikey eat at Koney King in Gary was unscripted and shot in one take, letting a real conversation unfold among Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Jon Bernthal and Elisha Evans over a chili cheese dog, a pizza puff and a lemonade.
- "Gary" was shot on location over about seven days on 3-perf 35 mm film with Panavision lenses, and the earlier flashback episode "Fishes" was also shot on film. Cinematographer Andrew Wehde said he processed the film to feel like a memory, standing apart from the look and tone of The Bear.
