Plot summary
Professor Hinkle, a magician hired to entertain a school class on Christmas Eve, flops his act and throws his hat away in a temper. The children build a snowman and argue over a name before settling on Frosty, and when the discarded hat lands on his head, the snowman comes to life. Hinkle spots the magic and wants the hat for his own career, but his rabbit, Hocus Pocus, returns it to the children, who bring Frosty back. The day turns warmer, and Frosty fears he will melt. The children decide he belongs at the North Pole. They parade him through town to the train yard, where Frosty, Karen and Hocus Pocus board a freight car without tickets.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Jimmy Durante was one of the first people to record "Frosty the Snowman" when the song came out in 1950, then with slightly different lyrics, and he re-recorded it for the 1969 special that he also narrated.
- Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass wanted the special and its characters to look like a Christmas card, so they hired Paul Coker Jr., a greeting card and Mad magazine artist, to draw the characters and backgrounds.
- Because CBS's rights to the special did not include streaming, the network had to black it out on every streaming platform, including Paramount+ and feeds carried by cable and satellite alternatives such as YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV.
