Plot summary
Jenny Sandoval lives in the Tenderloin, the San Francisco district where her father Jim keeps a saloon. She wants to marry Dan McAllister, a piano player, and Jim is set against the match. The earthquake of 1906 kills both men and wrecks the city. Jenny gives birth to a son and names him Dan. Amah, a Chinese woman, is her loyal friend and helps care for the baby. Steve Dutton, a crooked lawyer with Tenderloin roots, puts up the money for Jenny to enter the vice trade, supplying women on demand. She hands the boy to a respectable married couple who are in Steve's debt.

- George Brent was set to play Dan McAllister but dropped out early in production to star in 42nd Street, and was replaced by James Murray, for whom Frisco Jenny was one of his first films after a four-month hard-labor sentence and parole; the press framed it as a comeback from his alcoholism and legal trouble.
- According to the pressbook, a replica of 1906 San Francisco was built at the First National studios, and the earthquake in the film was replicated using rollers and levers.
