Plot summary
Gar Davis has to leave Largo in a hurry after the man he threatened to kill turns up dead, and a posse comes after him. In Comanche country he comes upon a man killed by an arrow. He trades jackets with the corpse and sends it over a cliff, hoping his pursuers will take the body for his own. He tries to steal a horse, and young Chad fires, grazing his face. Chad's mother, Celia, dresses the wound, and when the house comes under attack Gar helps fight the raiders off. The three of them then set out on horseback for Fort Dobbs.
