Plot summary
Ann Gorman, a reporter, is looking into a series of stranglings blamed on a killer known as The Judge. In a bar she finds Lieutenant Harry Grant and Sergeant Art Collins; a phone call about the killer's latest act takes the two men away, and she follows them. Grant and Collins find the newspaper editor McGill injured outside his workplace. The next morning Grant rereads the notes left for the police and hears a coroner's theory about the killer. Once Grant knows the man's height, weight and appearance, he has a faceless dummy built.
