Plot summary
Sandy Ricks is sent to Coral Key, a seaside town in the Florida keys, to stay the summer with his uncle Porter. He had hoped to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers instead, and the island pleases him little. He meets Cathy, the shopkeeper his uncle flirts with, and Kim, a girl of his own age. On Porter's trawler they cross Porter's rival, Dirk Moran, who shoots at a pod of bottlenose dolphins. One dolphin escapes, and Sandy names it Flipper.
