Plot summary
A veteran NYPD officer in Brooklyn has spent his career working alone. Angela has moved from Atlanta to join the department as a new recruit, and the two are paired for a twelve-hour shift, their first day as partners. He takes the assignment reluctantly, and the pair could hardly be more mismatched. Call after call on the streets of New York City turns violent, and one of the cases they handle concerns a mob killing that puts both officers in danger. During the shift the two also find a lost dog and give it a ride in their patrol car.

- The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board against the makers of First Shift, after crew members said a prop gun brought to set by line producer Ari Taub had put their safety at risk.
- Uwe Boll called the accusations against First Shift "completely baseless" and said they were retaliation after demands to turn the film into a union production were refused; Gino Anthony Pesi and Kristen Renton also denied an animal-abuse allegation involving Pesi's dog in an email to PETA.
- Boll, who called First Shift the least violent film of his career, added a subplot in which Gino Anthony Pesi and Kristen Renton's characters take a lost dog for a ride in their patrol car; the dog was played by Pesi's own pet, Tango.
