Plot summary
Jackie DiNorscio is a soldier in the Lucchese crime family's New Jersey faction. He and nineteen others have spent a year waiting for their federal racketeering case to open. While he is out on bail, his cousin Tony Compagna, a drug addict, shoots him; fearing the wider mob family led by Nick Calabrese, Tony agrees to testify for the government. A DEA drug sting then puts Jackie in prison with a sentence of twenty-two to thirty years. District attorney Sean Kierney offers him an early release if he turns on his codefendants, and he refuses. When the trial starts, he dismisses his lawyer and asks Judge Sidney Finestein to let him represent himself.
