Fiddlin' (2018) on Netflix

Plot summary

At the Old Fiddlers' Convention in the Appalachian Mountains, an event held for eighty years, musicians of several generations play bluegrass and old-time music together, many of them by ear. Wayne Henderson builds guitars and tells stories; Presley Barker, eleven years old, plays guitar, and the two are friends who compete in the same contest. Women such as Dori Freeman, Martha Spencer, Ivy Phillips and Kitty Amaral describe how hard it is for women to break into bluegrass. Karen Carr says that music gave her a way through mental illness. Eddie Bond and Jon Lohman explain where the music came from, and Jake Krack plays fiddle. Most of the players say they will keep performing all their lives.
