Plot summary
Emily Weaver designs clothes and her husband Nate is an artist. They live in New York City and are expecting their first child. At a dinner party Emily loses the pregnancy, and the scarring she is left with means she will not conceive again. For a fresh start the two move to Nate's family house in the countryside, which has stood empty for some time. A very old skeleton is found on the land, and in the cellar Emily comes upon a trunk of baby things. The local historical society tells her the property has a past she and Nate did not know about, including deaths there in earlier centuries. Nate turns cold and distant as he paints again, and Emily, isolated, begins seeing a woman drenched in blood.
