Plot summary
Detective Malcolm Toohey is chasing a suspect out of a drug lab when he is shot and his vest saves him. He celebrates that night, then drives home drunk and knocks a boy off a bicycle with his car mirror. He summons an ambulance but tells no one that he was driving. Jim Melic, a young detective constable, and his older partner Carl Summer come to the scene. Carl knows Malcolm, so he sends Jim away to secure the perimeter, questions Malcolm on his own and tells him to go home, which makes Jim suspicious. The injured boy is William Sarduka, and his mother is Ankhila Sarduka.
