Plot summary
For twenty years a subculture has formed in Brazil away from the notice of the wider society. It is the culture around funk carioca, a rhythm that mixes 1980s American electronic funk with many Brazilian influences. The movement it belongs to, baile funk, comes from the favelas, the slums of Rio de Janeiro, at times among the poorest and most violent places anywhere. Its sound is Miami bass beats and samples under rap vocals in Brazilian slang. The documentary follows people on the margins of the city and their stories of sex, love, poverty and pride. They have their own language, their own style and their own heroes.
