Plot summary
Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner appear together for the first time in this cartoon short, the only one the pair made during the 1940s. The coyote carries the mock Latin name Carnivorous Vulgaris and the bird Accelleratii Incredibus. Coyote opens with a knife, and a straight run shows that he cannot match the bird's speed. He then works through a series of traps, plans and purchased products, though not every product in this first outing yet comes from the Acme Corporation. The format it establishes, one predator chasing one bird through one scheme after another, became the pattern for the later shorts. The title plays on the phrase fast and furious.
