Plot summary
Albus Dumbledore knows that Gellert Grindelwald intends to take over the wizarding world, but a blood troth binds them both and he cannot move against him. He hands the task to Newt Scamander, who gathers Theseus, the Charms teacher Lally Hicks, the wizard Yusuf Kama and the baker Jacob Kowalski, while Queenie Goldstein stands in Grindelwald's camp. In Berlin, Anton Vogel clears Grindelwald of his crimes, allowing him to stand in the election for head of the International Confederation of Wizards, against Vicência Santos and Liu Tao. That contest is settled by a qilin, a magical creature that bows to whoever is pure of heart.

- Warner Bros. asked Johnny Depp to resign as Gellert Grindelwald in November 2020 after negative publicity from his libel case, and he had shot only three scenes in London. His contract guaranteed payment regardless, with his salary reportedly $10-16 million, and Mads Mikkelsen replaced him that month.
- The Secrets of Dumbledore is the first Wizarding World film to show Dumbledore and Grindelwald as lovers, though J. K. Rowling's novels never mentioned it after she said in 2007 that he was gay. Two lines referring to Dumbledore's homosexuality were censored for the release in China.
- Filming at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden in the UK was halted on 3 February 2021 after a crew member tested positive for COVID-19; composer James Newton Howard confirmed later that month that production had wrapped.
- Although The Secrets of Dumbledore is partly set in Berlin and Bhutan, it was not shot on location: both were rebuilt on the backlot and sound stages of Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden and augmented with visual effects led by supervisor Christian Manz.
