Plot summary
Kyle Baxter is one of the best players of Evolver, a virtual-reality laser tag game, and he is close to winning a nationwide tournament when a girl named Jamie knocks him out of it. Kyle breaks into the game company's computer system and has himself declared the winner. The prize is Evolver, a small robot with a compressed air gun that plays against him, and Kyle, his friend Zach Renzetti, Jamie and his sister Ali take turns against it, clearing the first level with ease. Whenever the robot is beaten it evolves, becoming quicker, smarter and more competitive, and it trades its soft foam ammunition for ball bearings it takes from Kyle's room.
