Plot summary
The musical A Chorus Line grew out of interviews Michael Bennett recorded with Broadway dancers about their lives and feelings, and many of those tapes are heard in the film. Decades later, a revival of the show is being cast on Broadway, and 3,000 dancers arrive on the first day of auditions. The film follows that process and sets the tryouts beside the history of the show they hope to join. Performers from the original cast, the show's composer and the man who directed the revival add their recollections, and the individual stories of the dancers trying out are woven in beside them.
