Plot summary
A reporter comes to the psychiatric ward where David Fielding is kept, following up on the deaths of the friends who were with him. David sits unresponsive until the visitor shows him a photograph of Dr. Watermann, his old professor, then lunges at him and grows frantic when his cross cannot be found. From taped police interviews, the reporter reconstructs the trip David took with Susan Turner, Jim Hudson and Vicki into a forest canyon to find Watermann. The professor's cabin is in ruins, and in a cave a cackling old man hands them an ancient book of magical lore whose pages smell of sulfur and hold the Lord's Prayer written backwards. Watermann's notes call it a bible of evil and record that his experiments went wrong, loosing a giant tentacled creature that wrecked his house.
