Plot summary

Adam Bell teaches history at a college in Toronto. On a colleague's suggestion he rents a film and sees a bellhop played by a man who could be his twin. An online search gives him the actor's name, Anthony Claire, and he watches Anthony's other two films and learns that the actor lives in Mississauga. He phones the apartment and reaches Anthony's pregnant wife, Helen, who takes his voice for her husband's. Adam says he is not Anthony, which frightens her. Anthony answers the next call, believes a stranger is pestering him, and warns him off. At Anthony's talent agency the staff mistake Adam for the actor and hand him a confidential letter. At home, Adam finds a photograph of a man who resembles him, a woman's hand on his shoulder, the woman's part torn away.
