Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Will Arnett was announced as the voice of the new KITT Mustang, but less than two weeks before the television film aired he stepped down after General Motors informed him of a conflict of interest, since he does voiceover work for GMC Trucks; Val Kilmer landed the role.
- Two of the Shelby Mustangs used to play KITT were later auctioned as a pair for $300,000 at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event in Palm Springs, with proceeds benefiting Ford's Salute to Education scholarship program.
- NBC commissioned a weekly series from the pilot for the 2008-2009 season, with Gary Scott Thompson brought on to show-run on a two-year contract, but it ran only 17 episodes, from September 2008 to March 2009, before being canceled.
- Even with poor reviews, the film averaged a viewership of 12.8 million and NBC captured first place within the 18-49 demographic; it was nominated for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Broadcast Miniseries, Movie or Special by the Visual Effects Society.
- The success of the 2007 film Transformers inspired NBC Entertainment President Ben Silverman to revive Knight Rider, and NBC announced on December 13, 2007 that the new two hour pilot would air on February 17, 2008.
