Plot summary
Dan and Joyce Thompson are out for their anniversary, and their three children stay behind with a replacement sitter. Christopher is four, Sally is nine and Jacob is eleven. The woman comes recommended by the family's usual babysitter. She favors Christopher, gives the children extra cookies and allows them things their parents forbid. At the restaurant, Dan and Joyce are watched by a man. During hide-and-seek, the sitter cuts the internet, removes the laces from the children's shoes and pries open the safe in the parents' bedroom.
