Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • The real-life Christian metal band Stryper is central to the film: the fictional band 316 spends the summer trying to win an opening slot on a tour featuring Stryper, and performs the band's song "Makes Me Wanna Sing" at a Christian summer camp.
  • Writer-director Chris White was raised in Southern Baptist evangelical culture and drew on it for the film, saying that unlike the sinister or stupid church people of most movies, his friends were funny and flawed and sincerely loved Jesus and Christian rock.
