Plot summary
Dominic is the cinematographer on a low budget horror movie being shot in rural Pennsylvania, and Celeste is a gaffer on the same crew. Over the course of the filming the two begin a romantic relationship. Some of the crew begin to wonder whether the killings staged for the camera are real, and whether the production is a snuff documentary whose cast and crew are unwilling.

- Dusty Nelson, Pasquale Buba and John Harrison met while working at a Pittsburgh television station and apprenticed under George A. Romero on his 1977 film Martin. Inspired by that film, they started an LLC and raised $55,000 from family and friends to fund Effects.
- Effects premiered on November 9, 1979, but had to wait 26 years for a wide release, which only arrived in October 2005.
