Plot summary
Emma finds herself in a loveless marriage, and her son Elliot runs a Chinese restaurant that is failing. The two of them have grown estranged. Emma leaves her husband and moves in with Elliot, and she tries to reconnect with her gay son through the home-cooked food she makes, because words fail them. Maureen, Elliot's neighbor, meddles in his life. The restaurant belongs to the family, and it faces foreclosure, while both mother and son face a stubborn fear of intimacy.
