Plot summary
Calvin Hart is an unstable but exceptional American sniper, and Thomas Newton is his spotter. In Vietnam in 1973, a Vietcong attack leaves Newton wounded and the two of them stranded in enemy territory with limited resources. They have to fight their way through that territory to reach their rescue team, and they stay in radio contact with their sergeant as they go. Bounty hunters and assassins are after them, along with the Vietcong's best sharpshooters. Newton's wound is grave, and Hart's stability is slipping even faster. Waiting for Hart back home is an obligation that hangs over the journey.
