Plot summary
King Gareth and Queen Rhonu had a son, Walter, after they took the throne. Rhonu died following her bonded dragon's death, and Walter, disillusioned with dragons, ran away. His wife gave birth to fraternal twins with patches of scales on their skin and died; Walter raised the pair. Twenty years on, Gareth nears death with Walter still missing and no clear heir. Drago survives the king and finds his heart bound to Edric, the male twin, a sheriff with enhanced strength in Earl Robert Cole's shire. Drago urges Edric to claim Gareth's throne in Lundenwic; the people love him, but his arrogance and his inexperience with royal duties trouble the dragon. Edric's twin sister Meghan, whose scales are harder to conceal and who can manipulate fire, wants the throne too.

- The score keeps Randy Edelman's original main theme from the first Dragonheart film; McKenzie asked each film's director and producer where it should play, and they reserved it for moments when "hope and chivalry come alive through the great dragon".
