Trailer
Plot summary
The film examines how digital media sharing spread across the internet, gathering software developers and musicians to talk about the era's controversial file sharing programs, with Napster at the center. It traces the service from its rise in 1999 and into the lawsuits that followed. A former record producer, former label executives and the former head of a recording industry trade group are among those interviewed. The project started out after a meeting with one of Napster's founders in 2002 as a planned narrative feature; the many sides of the story led it toward documentary, and interviews were still being filmed at the SXSW conference in 2012.
