Plot summary
Trace McGraw comes back to Puerto Vallarta and borrows a boat from a friend who will be gone for two months. Through Pedro he meets Carol Brubaker, a diver with a biology degree who stayed in Mexico after her parents came to study climate change, and Rita Valdés, his first love. A surfer disappears and the search is called off in bad weather. Trace spots the creature through his binoculars, but the barman Luis tells him he must have been confused, since no animal can eat a whole boat.
