Plot summary
A day of video games is how Greg Heffley opens his summer, which prompts Frank Heffley to take the games away, and Susan Heffley to push Frank toward spending more time with his son. The Heffleys meet Lenwood Heath at the public pool, a lifeguard and a friend of Rodrick's who attends Spag Union, a strict military school that starts in the eighth grade; Greg is about to enter that grade, and Frank considers signing him up. Rowley Jefferson invites Greg to the country club, where Holly Hills, Greg's crush, teaches tennis and Heather Hills works, so Rodrick asks Greg to get him inside. Frank sets up an unpaid internship for Greg at his office, so Greg claims he was hired at the club.
