Plot summary
Charles, a wealthy attorney, is distant and controlling; Helen Simmons-McCarter, his wife of eighteen years, is unemployed and lonely in their mansion. On the evening of their anniversary she arrives home to find her belongings loaded into a U-Haul by Orlando, a truck driver, and learns that Charles is divorcing her and intends to marry Brenda, his mistress. Helen goes to her grandmother Madea, who takes her in. Madea's brother Joe is angered by her presence. The next day Helen and Madea wreck the mansion, and Madea is placed under house arrest while a bond is set for Helen. Helen begins keeping a diary.
