Plot summary
Peter Jensen chases storms in Oklahoma, and an unpredictable tornado kills his wife Mary. Wrecked by the loss, he moves to Portland in the north and stays away ten years. He comes back to visit his mother-in-law, Margaret Harrington, and to see his daughter Kara graduate. Kara works at EDAC, the epidemiological institute that Dr. Raymond Ardmore has opened, and her partner Dr. John Tedesco fears the contractor built it unsafely. Robert Booker, who once assisted Peter, brings him research pointing to monster storms ahead.
