Plot summary
Hawk, Lex, Trip and Jeremiah, who goes by Jam, play in a Kiss cover band called Mystery, and in October 1978 they have tickets for their idols' concert in Detroit the next night. Jam's religiously conservative mother finds the tickets, humiliates him over the school intercom, burns them and has him transferred to a Catholic boarding school. Trip wins replacement tickets and backstage passes in a Detroit radio contest. The boys ditch school, free Jam from the boarding school with a hallucinogenic-mushroom pizza for Father Phillip McNulty, and set off for Detroit in Lex's mother's Volvo to collect the tickets. On the way, Trip throws a slice of pizza onto the windshield of the disco fans Kenny and Bobby. Kenny forces their car off the road and wrecks their Kiss 8-track tape.
