Plot summary
Dr. Lorca, a collector of oddity toys, travels to a nine-hundred-year-old Italian castle with his wife Lauraline, her stepson David, the psychic Lillith and his driver Eric, after Caitlin calls about a toy she found there that moves. The castle's owners stay away, superstitious about its past, and are emptying it to sell to the Italian government as a landmark. When Eric drops a crate, the Demonic Toys inside are revealed. Caitlin opens a box and shows the visitors Divoletto, a doll carved from wood and fabric. Mr. Butterfield calls it the oldest toy he has ever seen, perhaps from the fourteenth century. Caitlin taps the box with a wand and the doll moves; she blames magnets, while Lillith disagrees. Eric reports that their cars are gone.
