Plot summary
A new comet is due over Paris, and the residents of Chris's building plan a party to watch it, an apocalypse theory going around among them. Chris has carried one date since childhood: his parents were killed the night Halley's Comet came, eleven years ago. As darkness settles, the people around him lose their bearings and their tempers, and something about it is tied to the comet overhead. Before long they stop being merely violent and become creatures from beyond this world. Chris wants out of the building, and the help he finds is a tenant who carries a gun.
