- After the film drew criticism at its debut at Fantastic Fest in September 2017, the filmmakers re-edited it and retitled it Dead Night by February 2018.
- Irving Walker and Bradford Baruh's original script split the film into two halves, one a "true crime" television show about the family's murder and one the "real" events, but Baruh felt it worked on the page and would not translate to the screen.
