Plot summary
Three years after he left, Lorn Warfield comes back to a ranch in ruins and hears from his neighbor Owen Forbes that an Apache raiding party carried off his wife, Angie, and their two children. Warfield once made his living with a gun and had put that life behind him; now he takes the weapon up again and rides out to bring his family home. Forbes goes with him, engaged to Angie because she believed her husband dead, and blaming himself for not having stopped the raid. On the trail the two men are joined by Jimmy Noble, a trader who deals with the Indians, while the disagreements between them grow.
