Plot summary
Annie livestreams from her car, making up songs on the spot with lyrics taken from the live chat. Weary of pandemic restrictions and of being homeless in Los Angeles, she flies to London to surprise her friend and former bandmate Stretch, who now drives for a food delivery service. Gemma, Stretch's girlfriend, argues with Annie about politics and social issues, and Annie upsets restaurant owners with her anti-mask views. After overhearing Gemma press Stretch to send her away, Annie takes his car and phone and accepts a job meant for him, driving an elderly woman called Angela to an address.

- Dashcam grew out of Annie Hardy's Band Car, her livestreamed YouTube series in which she worked out song ideas with viewers while driving around Los Angeles; Rob Savage and Jed Shepherd developed the film from that series.
- Savage's plan had been to take the Band Car concept to studios and cast an actor in the role, but he ended up asking Annie Hardy herself to star in the film.
- During production, Annie Hardy spent her free time at the Albion Rooms, the hotel and recording studio owned by The Libertines, where she recorded material for her band Giant Drag; Giant Drag released the song "Devil Inside" in June 2022 to promote the film, and it plays over the closing credits.
