Plot summary
Rafael Infante arrives in Houston from Santiago, Cuba, after burying his mother, to take a job as a handyman at the studio John Burnett runs. Burnett has no idea that Rafael is the son he never met. At the studio Rafael becomes friendly with Bea Johnson, a dancer, and with Lovejoy, who works the reception desk, and he is drawn to Ruby Sinclair, one of the instructors. Ruby is getting ready for a Las Vegas contest with Julian Marshall, her dance partner and the father of her son Peter. Burnett keeps his distance from the studio's preparations, which frustrates Patricia, his own partner. Rafael offers to repair Burnett's old truck and hunts down parts for it.
