Trailer

Plot summary

Ted Shackleford leads tours at the Bloomsberry Museum and speaks each week to Maggie Dunlop's class of schoolchildren. His employer, Mr. Bloomsberry, tells him the museum must shut its doors because the money has run out. Bloomsberry's son, Junior, has other ideas: he wants the building demolished and replaced with a multistory car park. Hoping to draw visitors, Ted offers to cross to Africa and fetch a statue called the Lost Shrine of Zagawa. Junior burns half the map before Ted departs. Wearing a yellow suit and hat, Ted crosses the ocean on a cargo ship, reaches the jungle, and befriends a monkey that follows him home.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Curious George (2006)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Jun Falkenstein was signed to direct the film in September 2003 and was fired by the studio in August 2004, after working on it for more than a year; Matthew O'Callaghan took her place.
  • Ron Howard brought Matthew O'Callaghan into a meeting with Ken Kaufman, and the two rewrote the story in a conference room over two weeks, expanding the role of the Man with the Yellow Hat so the script played more like a buddy film than a George-focused one.
  • A final decision was made to use traditional animation to recreate the look and feel of the Curious George books, which lowered the animation costs; the film was then animated in eight studios in the United States, Canada, France, Taiwan and South Korea.
  • Jack Johnson, who liked Curious George growing up, wrote thirteen songs for the soundtrack album Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George, nine of which appeared in the film, writing rough versions in response to black-and-white sketches of scenes.
  • Because George never speaks, Jack Johnson used his own voice as the monkey's narrative, and a cavaquinho was played to represent George while a piano set the tone for the Man with the Yellow Hat.
