Plot summary

A bacteriologist bound for San Francisco discovers he has a passenger: Diane North, a high-profile heiress who walked out on her own wedding and is hiding in the trailer he is towing. He is heading for a ship to China, where he is to join work on a cure for a serious disease. Diane gives the name Maggie "Jonesy" Jones and says she is penniless and on her way to an uncle. Larry looks for chances to leave her behind, and she finds ways to stay. Diane's mother, who is wealthy, posts a reward for her daughter's safe return and fears a kidnapping, while Walter Corbett, the fiance, stays unbothered. Two swindlers at a diner spot her and climb into the trailer.
