Plot summary
Jack Simpson has a job at a telemarketing firm and holds three memberships at the Cityside Lawn Bowls Club, though he has never played a game. He signed up for the free parking, which he rents to his workmates. Cityside is in financial trouble, and the developer Bernie Fowler wants to convert it into a pokies venue. When the Club President, Len, rules that every existing member must play, Jack reluctantly turns up on Saturdays for the bowling matches. He proves a natural, but his brashness upsets the older members. The veteran player Stan Coombs takes him under his wing to teach him about the game and about thinking of other people.
