Plot summary
Three brothers share a father, Fred Libner, and not much else. Marvin, the eldest, serves in the U.S. Air Force as a sergeant. The middle brother, Buddy, is shy and spends his time dreaming. Bobby, the youngest, is in reform school. The three fought constantly as children and now hardly talk to one another. In the summer of 1963, Fred hands them a job: get a 1954 Cadillac from Detroit to Miami, a car he bought for their mother, Betty, and keep it in mint condition. The journey puts the three of them in one car, where they argue and begin to talk to each other again.
