Conceiving Ada (1997) on Netflix

Plot summary

Emmy Coer is a computer scientist fascinated by Ada Lovelace, a nineteenth-century mathematician who wrote an early program for Charles Babbage's Analytical Engine. When Emmy learns she is pregnant, she worries that the child will interfere with her research. She also fears losing her boyfriend, so she decides to keep the baby. Emmy works on a way to communicate with Lovelace across time using undying information waves. Her goal is to reach Ada, understand her life and work, and bring her into the present by having Ada take over Emmy's body, using Emmy's own DNA as a conduit. Ada faced constant barriers because she lived as a woman in the nineteenth century.
