Plot summary
Mabel Lederer has just been widowed. She is certain she has psychic gifts: she believes she can see what is coming and make contact with spirits. She puts her house and everything in it up for sale, gives herself a new name, Angela Motorman, and moves to a new town. There she takes a room in a boarding house, where she gets to know the other residents. She gathers them for a seance, and the results are comical.
