Plot summary
Nathan Gardner brings his wife Theresa and their children Lavinia, Benny, and Jack to live on the farm his late father left him. The family is still settling in when a brilliantly colored meteorite lands close to the well in their front yard. Ward Phillips, a hydrologist surveying the area for a dam, comes to the property with the mayor and the sheriff from nearby Arkham to look at it. Nathan and Lavinia watch odd things happen around the stone, and then it is gone. Ward notices an oily sheen in the groundwater. When his test strips light up with the same color as the meteorite, he warns the Gardners against drinking the water.
